Only a force greater than evil can stop what's coming next. And he's coming after Woody and his mother. A man driven by a malicious evil has set a depraved plan into motion. Woody's fearful suspicions are taking shape. When he hears the boy who communicates like he does, without speaking, Kipp knows he needs to find him before it's too late. An ally unknown to him is listening.Ī uniquely gifted dog with a heart as golden as his breed, Kipp is devoted beyond reason to people. But Woody believes a monstrous evil was behind his father's death and now threatens him and his mother. For Megan, keeping her boy safe and happy is what matters. Not when his mother, Megan, tells him she loves him. Not when his father died in a freak accident. Woody Bookman hasn't spoken a word in his eleven years of life.

Has every mark of a classic." -Associated Press "Canine or human, it is hard to find a more lovable character in fiction than Kipp. He is one of the best. From Dean Koontz, the master of suspense, comes an epic thriller about a terrifying killer and the singular compassion it will take to defeat him. I listened to the book and Eduardo Ballerini did an excellent job as usual. Add bad cops and a little romance in the mix with Koontz's linguistic ability and you have a book I truly loved. His earlier novel, Watchers, is one of my all-time faves, and this one is similar in subject matter: a golden retriever who is more than he appears to be is up against a monstrous experiment gone wrong in a battle of good versus evil. Lee Shackett is the evil found in all Koonts's books, and he is truly scary, an evil truly possible. I feel like I should preface this review with an admission: I was predisposed to love Devoted by Dean Koontz.

At 11, he reads on a college level but he has never spoken. Woody is an autistic boy living with his widowed mother. His abilities are unique, abilities I wish all dogs had or maybe they do but unlike Woody I can't hear them. Kipp is one of the main characters in Devoted. All his books have dogs now, usually golden retrievers, and they are treated as serious characters. I have noticed a shift in Koontz's writing after his beloved Trixie came into his life. I have read pretty much everything Dean Koontz has ever written and this is one of the best, definitely up there with Watchers.
